Sunburn Remedy

Drawing on a skin of the cream protecting from solar burnsSo you put sun block on, went into the water and forgot to reapply? That happened to me last weekend and I got quite the sunburn.  My back and shoulders hurt so much it was difficult to lie down.  I immediately put on Banana Boat Aloe Vera Sun Burn relief gel which normally works fine, but after about an hour or so it was not enough….this sunburn was bad and I felt like I was on fire!  I took Tylenol and again only found very temporary relief.  What did help was mixing 4 cups of water with 2 capfuls of vinegar and soaking a towel into the cold water and then placing it on the burned areas.  After about 5 minutes you could feel how much heat the towel picks up.  I repeated this twice per day.   If you are home, try to repeat every 2 to 4 hours.  I found it very helpful to cool the body down enough to be able to fall asleep at night.  If you don’t have vinegar handy, I read that you call also squeeze the juice of a lemon into the water or a cup of milk.  Some other suggestions with items you might have in the fridge: mash cucumbers and apply to sunburn or grate potatoes and apply to burn (I think my back was burnt enough to cook them into hash browns.) I’m not sure if any of these others work but I hope to avoid finding out the rest of this summer as I have learned my lesson and will reapply sunblock every few hours.
