Healthy Family Snacks for Game time

veggie platterSunday is family night for us. Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and close friends all come together for football. Of course, on the night of the biggest game of the year the food and the parting is even bigger! In the last couple of weeks we have been adjusting our diet choices quite a bit and are attempting to eat a little healthier than before. My sister was diagnosed with a Gluten intolerance and my husband’s blood pressure and triglycerides are out of control. So, needless to say we are going to be having a much different menu for the big game than last year’s snacks. As with most things in life we took for granted our health and now are looking at things in a different light. I thought that as I sat here making my list of grocery items for the big game I would share with you the goodies I am in charge of for the big game!

Appetizers – We are big snackers on Sundays so I want to make sure we keep it healthy so I am bringing a nice veggie medley of mixed veggies that are our favorite. This platter will have Cucumbers, Red Pepper slices, Edemame, Carrots, Apple Slices and a little light ranch dressing for dipping. I am also going to make a platter full of fruits including watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries and grapes. New to the menu will be a vegan cheesy guacamole dip from a recipe idea I found as part of “The Kind Diet”. My sister is going to be making some homemade stuffed mushrooms and I will share the recipe for that later because she is still working on how to make them gluten free.

Dinner – We continue with the snacking mode and are making homemade broiled chicken wings, sweet potato fries, and some roasted green beans. I am not sure what else we will have but I will add it to this post once we make it.

I feel good about the new food choices we are making and I am interested to see how we all feel after eating a healthier football menu!

What are some of your favorite game time snacks? Do you have any recipes ideas to share? We would love to hear from you!
