CNN reported changes to the McDonalds Happy Meal. Each meal will now include sliced apples, less French fries and a choice of 1 percent milk, fat free chocolate milk, fruit juice or water with the usual choice of a hamburger, cheeseburger or chicken nuggets. The First Lady, Michelle Obama who is heading a campaign to prevent childhood obesity congratulated McDonalds for making progress by adding fruit to the Happy meal.
This was a genius move on the part of McDonalds for publicity, but let’s keep in mind it’s still only an “option” so it falls on the parents to make the right choices and choose the water instead of soda, and for the kids to actually eat the apples. Furthermore, if the parents purchase any food there for themselves, just about everything on the menu is not good for you. For example the Angus Deluxe burger has 750 calories – almost half from fat, and their new fruit smoothie being advertised as real fruit, have 210 calories and 44 grams of sugar. Let’s not even get started on the harmful amount of sodium in their food. Our opinion is to steer clear of McDonalds and make better choices for the entire family.
