Cruise Activities For The Kids

One of the reasons why many parents choose going on a cruise versus other types of vacations is that they tend to be very accommodating to families. With a wide variety of activities it’s difficult for youngsters to get bored. Here are 5 types of cruise ship activities that kids will enjoy.

Swimming And Waterslides

What would a cruise ship be without pools? Many of the newer ships have both regular swimming pools and kiddie pools. In addition to the pools ships like Carnival and Norwegian have waterslides. Disney’s Dream and Fantasy ships have an AquaDuck Watercoaster where parents and children share a raft as they go on a 765 feet long water ride.

Movies Cruise Ship Style

Cruise ships have all sorts of movies for kids to watch. On Princess Cruises they have a Movies Under The Stars experience where families can watch a movie outside on a big screen. Royal Caribbean’s Anthem Of The Seas shows both Pixar and Disney movies. Next year Carnival’s newest ship, Vista, will have be debuting the first IMAX theater at sea.

Games Of All Kinds

Kids love games of all kinds and they will certainly find many of them while on a cruise ship. Pretty much all cruise ships have video games available for kids to play. Many of Carnival’s ships offer games like mini-golf, basketball and dodgeball. Royal Caribbean has an arcade where kids can master all of their favorite games. Norwegian Cruise Line has bowling onboard which will surely get the competitive juices of a family flowing.

Hardcore Playing

Even while on vacation it’s important that kids get some of their pent up energy out. There are many opportunities to do this on almost any cruise ship. For those that want to enjoy some indoor fun they can do a lap or two or twenty around the roller skating rink on some of Royal Caribbean’s ships or practice their driving skills on the bumper cars. On Norwegian, kids can learn how to juggle or walk on high wire at Circus School.

Lots Of Exploring

There are a lot of opportunities to do some exploring on a cruise ship. You can get a deck map and have your kids pick out places that they want to explore. Another fun idea is to make a scavenger hunt of sorts where kids have to decipher clues to figure out different locations to visit on the ship. If they figure out all of the clues you can always treat them to an ice cream cone for their prize.

Cruises are the ultimate way for families to have a worry-free vacation. Even with the littlest of kids tagging along, there’s a lot for everyone to do and there are many opportunities to create new memories along the way.
