We are adapting to being home all the time and have found some great Online Cooking Classes. Chicago is one of our favorites cities to visit and Girl & the Goat is our favorite restaurant. Lucky for us Chef Stephanie Izard has pivoted and adjusted to this new at home world we are all trapped in and she has created “Meal Kits by Stephanie Izard”. ????
The most recent Online Cooking Class we participated in was the first Equality Should be Normal Virtual Gala. The ESBN Gala Dinner Meal Kit for 2 included everything we needed to make five items as well as a cocktail and dessert was already made for us. What was different about this Online Cooking Class versus the Online Cooking class with Stephanie Izard – Escape to Goat Island was that this was a Charity event. Not only did we get to cook with Chef Izard but we got to enjoy entertainment between every dish we made and we got to see other chefs as well. There is also an online auction going on to raise money for the Equality Should be Normal Organization.
Crispy Rice, Crab and Saffron meal from Chef Kristen Kish
First up was the Crispy Rice, Crab and Saffron meal from Chef Kristen Kish. We fryed up bacon, mixed in some green beans and eventually some crab. Meanwhile, we fried the rice then plated it all. Of course you could not forget all the delicious garlic mayo, cucumbers, cilantro and scallions to top it all off. What a great start! ?
Shrimp and Corn Beignets with Marcus Samuelsson
Next, we made Shrimp and Corn Beignets with a video from Marcus Samuelsson. The batter was ready to go for us so all we had to do was get the oil nice and hot. We put a large spoonful of Berbere aioli at the bottom of the plate and placed the beignets on top. Drizzled honey and topped with chives and cilantro – what a perfect sweet bite in your mouth! ??
Spaghetti di Montova with Chef Joe Flamm
Next up, Spaghetti di Montova with Chef Joe Flamm. My oh my was this delicious. Brown butter, sage, butternut quash, Parmesan cheese and pasta came together for an incredible dish! I can’t wait to make this again and again. It did not last long ?
Quick Braised Cucumbers and Radishes with Chef Carla Hall
Bourbon Chicken with Chef Brian Jupiter
The last two items were the Quick Braised Cucumbers and Radishes with Chef Carla Hall and Bourbon Chicken with Chef Brian Jupiter. These two items really went well together. I’ll admit the braised vegetable dish did not sound good to me but when it was all said and done it was delicious. I especially liked the nice spice the red pepper flakes gave to it. I ate the leftovers the lunch the next day. When know cooked radishes and cucumbers could taste so good. ?????
Overall it was another delicious Online Cooking Class and the pace of this was better for the average home cook rather than the Online Cooking class with Stephanie Izard – Escape to Goat Island . The entertainment in between each dish we made gave us time to really enjoy the food we cooked. We were so happy we could support Chef Izard and help raise money for the organization Equality Should be Normal.
