If you have ever watched a cooking channel then you have seen Jamie Oliver. Recently, the British chef has gone far beyond food tv and on to the big networks but he has also become an author and food champion for school lunches. Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution is a series on ABC where he attempts to solve the rapidly increasing problem of obesity in the United States. It is noted the the generation of children living now is not expected to live as long as their parents did due to the poor nutrition and lifestyle choices. Jamie created this show to give viewers the opportunity to see why this is happening in our country and empower us to change it. The show is aiming to change the way America eats not just at home but at school, the park or anywhere we may be.
Food Revolution is now in it’s second season. The new mission is to head to the biggest cities in America such as Los Angeles and Chicago to see how he can make a difference there. In a preview of an upcoming episode the L.A. School district locks him out of the lunch program. Jamie uses this program to create awareness of the growing epidemic of obesity and how we can help make it better.
On his website jamieoliver.com he gives a three step plan for all of us to make a change and how we can get involved in the food revolution. The first step is to become part of the revolution by signing Jamie’s petition to improve school food. The second step is to Inform yourself. There is an informational “Helpful Tips” brochure, complete with easy-to-make family dinner recipes, facts on nutrition, shopping tips and more. Jamie has also attached a letter with five simple steps to help make some changes in your life. Some of these changes include Leading by example and shopping and cooking together as a family. The third step is Making the Pledge to help fight obesity, heart disease and diabetes in America. The last and final step is actually changing the school lunches and replace the processed food in your school cafeteria with fresh meals cooked from scratch. There is a brochure to help you get started working with your local schools.

How will you help?
