Redecorating Your Child’s Bedroom This Spring

131723401Spring tends to be the time that we spruce up, clean up and re-organize parts of our home. Our kids’ rooms should be no exception! You know how nice it is to come home to a freshly painted living room, or a redecorated kitchen. It’s also easier and more enjoyable to keep a newly redecorated room clean and tidy. This year, while you’re getting your child’s bedroom clean for spring, why not redecorate it a bit for the new season? It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money at all. Here are some ideas:

  • Put on a fresh coat of paint. Painting a room is an inexpensive “fix” that makes a big difference! Buy a gallon or two of your child’s favorite color and spend an afternoon changing the look of her room. If her favorite color is bright orange or deep purple, you might not want to paint the entire room that shade; a good option is to paint just one wall a color that contrasts with or complements the other walls.
  • Buy a new bedspread. You can often find bedspreads or comforters at fairly inexpensive prices at places like Walmart, Target or IKEA. Keep in mind the color of the walls (or accent wall) and try to find something that complements or at least does not clash with the hue chosen. If your child uses a heavy comforter in the winter, try a lighter quilt or duvet cover for the spring to make the room feel lighter and airier.
  • Paint or refinish a piece of furniture. If your child has a wooden desk, for example, update it by sanding it and painting it a bright color. If you have no furniture in his room that can be painted, consider keeping your eyes open at flea markets and estate sales this spring to find the perfect piece. Don’t be afraid to think out of the box; a small desk could make an interesting night table, or a bookcase could double as a headboard for the child who loves to read.
  • Find a fun accessory or two. Depending on the age of your child, a lava lamp might be a big hit! Kids also like throw pillows, and these are not only inexpensive, but also come in a wide variety of colors, patterns and shapes. You could also look for posters, put up a bulletin board filled with photos of family and friends, or find a fun, whimsical sign to hang in the room. Go on sites like Pinterest with your child to get good ideas, or leaf through home decorating magazines for ideas that you could replicate on a shoestring!

Redecorating your child’s bedroom doesn’t have to be too labor-intensive or expensive, and may be just thing to help her feel inspired and motivated to keep her bedroom nice and neat.

What types of things have you done to decorate your child’s bedroom on a small budget?

This is a GREAT post! We’re about to start the add on for our youngest son’s bedroom and one thing we did with the older 2 boys is use the wall decals to really give it a personalized feel for them. One is Transformers and one is Nemo, this one will be Dinosaur Train and I am so excited!!!
