A Million Dollars or a Perfect Body?

I was reading a survey on USA Today from a few days ago and they posed the question would you take A Million Dollars or would you rather have Your Dream Body? According to the survey 22% of Americans would pass up on a million dollar lottery winning to have a dream body for the rest of their lives.  That’s a lot of money!  You would think the majority would take the money and then pay for a program to help them lose weight, but no….their weight and health were more important than the cash.  A majority admit that when they lose weight they feel better about themselves (64 percent) and see a spike in their energy (62 percent).  Many even believe that if they lost 10 pounds they’d be more confident in their sexuality (48 percent), feel more sexual (34 percent) and have more (33 percent) and better (28 percent) sex.

Many surveyed said they have lied about their weight on formal documents like a driver’s license and doctor’s office forms, and on their social profiles post pictures from the waste up only.  Thirty six percent stated they would prefer to share how many sexual partners they have had instead of their weight.

If it’s so important, what is keeping Americans from getting into better shape? While 68 percent of Americans have tried to diet at least once in their lifetime, they still struggle.  Many find it difficult to give up the foods they love, which is not surprising considering that close to half (45 percent) of Americans admit that it would be harder to give up their favorite dessert than sex for one month.  Sometimes, it’s simply not seeing the physical results as soon as they’d like to, that can derail their efforts.

I would have to say I would choose $1 million dollars over a perfect body. There’s no such thing as a perfect body. I came along way to loving myself, and loving what I look like. I would always wear jeans and a t-shirt. I wasn’t big, I had the type of body anyone wanted. But I always thought I could have more of this, and more of that. Today, a husband and two kids later, I am loving myself. I am still the size I was when I was in high school. But I am now wearing dresses and skirts. It’s unbelievable. My mom couldn’t believe I was wearing a dress. I came along way. So my choice would be the $1 million dollars.

I would take the million dollars and use a tiny portion of it to hire a trainer in order to get the perfect body so that I could have both! For me the “perfect body” is just being in shape, being healthy, and feeling confident in the body that Heavenly Father made for me!
