Suffering from Buyers Remorse

If you are like many of us at one point in your life you have made a purchase then regretted it. This is known as buyers remorse and no worries because you are not alone. We all watched the news and saw the people camping out or standing in line for days to get the big deals on Black Friday. According to an IBM report, black friday sales were up more than 23% over last year and cyber monday sales sales increased by 33%. The biggest increase was in the purchases for electronics meaning TV’s, computers and game consoles. A week few weeks have gone by and Buyer’s remorse is starting to set in! People are now starting to return those purchases in search of cash. It was noted that customers were asked why the product was being returned and 5% were for a product defect but 27% answered because of buyers remorse. Retailers were offering huge discounts and many fell victim to the best price but now that the credit card statements are arriving buyer’s remorse is setting in.

Buyer’s remorse is a feeling that often occurs after making a large purchase. At the time of the purchase you may be excited and even get a bit of an adrenaline rush once you have spent a large amount of money. Many times, people begin to regret the purchase and feel that they made the wrong decision. This is what we consider the definition of buyer’s remorse. So many of us are on a budget and are trying to do the best we can. Making an impulse purchase can mess it all up. It is difficult around the holidays because we try to make gift purchases based on what our loved ones would want and many times an unexpected deal gets our attention first. I often begin to second guess my purchases and start to think about the practical reasons for a purchase and how useful will the gift be and the remorse sets in. Many times we have bought things online and the quality is not what you expected and the remorse sets in. Or have you purchased something that turned out to be smaller than you expected?
