Who Does Fall Coffee Flavors Better – Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks?

starbucks signDropping temperatures and falling leaves are clear signs that fall is here.  Seasonal flavors such as apple, cinnamon and pumpkin fill the air.  Favorite coffee stops like Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts want to make sure that you have a wide variety of fall goodies to choose from.

At Dunkin Donuts you will find Pumpkin lattes, muffins and donuts including Munchkins.  You can also buy pumpkin packaged coffee to enjoy at home or at work.  If you prefer apple, try the Apple Cider or caramel apple doughnut.

Starbucks brought back their Pumpkin Spice Latte and Carmel Apple Spice Cider, and introduced a new flavor, Salted Caramel Mocha. By the way, they also added a Salted Caramel hot chocolate which has 600 calories in a 20 ounce drink.

We gladly did a taste test between the Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts pumpkin lattes, and we like Starbucks better.  If you haven’t tried it, the Starbucks pumpkin spice latte is espresso, pumpkin-flavored syrup and steamed milk, topped with sweetened whipped cream and pumpkin pie spices. The topping is what made the difference for us – it tasted more “festive” and seasonal than the Dunkin Donuts.

That was for taste, but how about calories?  Well the Starbucks coffee is 380 calories, 14g of fat. Dunkin Donuts has 330 calories and 9g of fat – both higher than a bowl of healthy cereal and milk for breakfast, so clearly if you are watching calories, these should be an occasional “treat” rather than a daily coffee choice.

Which pumpkin latte is your favorite?

I will take Dunkin Donuts any day of the week over Starbucks. The coffee is better and much more affordable.
