How to Fail

All of us Fail. I recently read an article by Seth Godin titled “How To Fail” and it got me thinking. How do you Fail? We all are consumed at times in our life by failure and something wills us to go on and succeed. Do you go out of your way to fail? Sometimes children do this to get our attention perhaps when things are not right at home or school. How do you teach someone to fail or do you just let them find out on their own?

Failure comes in many shapes and sizes. Do you feel like you are a failure when you give in or let someone win an argument even if they are wrong? Do your actions cause you to fail? Like could you do something to lose your job which would no longer allow you to support your family. Godin’s article gives your six random ideas that will help you fail better, more often and with an inevitably positive upside – it is a great article. We can all teach our children to learn from their failures just as we all continue to learn each time it happens no matter how old you are.

Two quotes stand out to me when trying to overcome a failure …..
– “If at first you don’t succeed ,try, try again” – William E. Hickson
– “Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” – Walt Disney

I think we all make mistakes and fail. I try to always learn from my failures and keep going and teach my children the same lessons. It does no good to mope and beat yourself up over mistakes. It is best to place your energies and thoughts on how you could try it a different way and do something different.
