- Have an all-day slumber party. When you get up in the morning (be sure to sleep in!) don’t change out of your jammies. Instead, bring blankets, sleeping bags and pillows into the living room for a day of slumber party fun. Watch the morning cartoons, and then build a pillow fort or have a pillow fight. In the evening, tell ghost stories, then pop some popcorn and watch a movie.
- Order in. Don’t spend time cooking that you could spend relaxing. Pick a family favorite, like pizza or Chinese food, and have it delivered. Take this opportunity to try an unusual topping or a new dish that none of you have ever tried before. If you’re not feeling that adventurous, try ordering familiar food, but from a restaurant that you’ve never ordered from before. Since you’ll be relaxed and de-stressed from spending the day lazing around, you should be able to forgo comfort food in favor of something new and exotic.
- Drift in the water. If you live near a river or a lake and you’ve never tried tubing, a lazy day is a good time to try it. You can usually rent inner tubes (durable, donut shaped inflated tubes) or bring your own for the purpose of drifting down the waterway. If that sounds like too much work, just bring some rafts to the pool and spend the day floating around in the sun.
- Take a trip to the library. What better way is there to spend a lazy day than curling up with a good book? If you decide to get dressed, spend some time on Lazy Day at your local library letting everyone pick out some new reading material. For younger kids, pick out some books you can all read together. An older child can read on her own, but take some time later to talk to her about what she read and why she liked it (or why she didn’t like it). She’ll enjoy the chance to share her thoughts with you, and you’ll get some insight about what’s on her mind.
There are all kinds of ways to spend a lazy day. You can be outdoors or indoors, spend money or relax for free: whatever suits your family is the best way to relax! The important part is to spend the day being lazy together.
