1) Cribs and bedding. You will definitely need a crib as this is the safest place for your baby to sleep. There are many new safety standards out for cribs such as wider slats on the crib, never use a crib where the side drops down. If at all possible buy a new crib and go to the baby store to see what your options are. Crib bedding is also important. You will need several sets of sheets but do not bother with a bumper because there are safety warnings that it may cause suffocation.
2) Baby Strollers. Look online and read what other parents are saying about certain brands of strollers. Keep in mind that you will be using your stroller often so when you are at the stop make sure to pick it up. Check the weight and make sure it is something your will be able to load in and out of the car comfortably.
3) Playpens. We really used our playpen a lot when we went to visit friends that did not have a crib. We would set up the pack-n-play in a spare room and baby would get to nap while we got to visit with friends. At home it provided a way to keep the baby contained and play with all the toys they wanted without being bothered.
Do your research before you leave the house so it is not so overwhelming. Always be an informed consumer and keep your receipt in case you find you did not need something you bought.
