Ipad vs Kindle for reading ebooks – what’s your favorite gadget ?

Kindle vs iPadWhat gadget do you read your ebooks on?
It has come down to the battle of the gadgets (and boy do we have a house full of them). Anyone who knows my husband knows that he has an addiction of sorts to Gadgets. That being said of course he has an Ipad and a Kindle only because he claims that the light on the Ipad was too difficult to read on for long periods. It pains me to agree with him but he is right. If you are going to read for long periods of time the Amazon Kindle’s was screen designed specifically for reading. The Kindle uses a reflective screen with no backlighting while the Ipad has an LED backlight. Now, there is something to be said for that – I can read my book while laying in bed with the lights off (which lasts all of 2 minutes because I fall asleep) – but when my husband uses the Kindle he always has to carry a little light around with him to be able to read.

Limitations: The Kindle is strictly an ebook reader where the Ipad can play videos, music, apps and endless possibilities.

In terms of graphics and apps hands down the Apple Ipad is the winner.

In terms of weight the Kindle wins coming in at only 8.7 ounces. My Ipad has a protective cover on it and I swear it adds at least 3 pounds to the weight of it.

Price wise the Kindle is the obvious winner at only $189 compared to the $500+ price tag of the Ipad.

For those of us who don’t get to read for long periods of time the Amazon Kindle App for my Iphone gives me the best of both worlds. The community at Shopaholic Mommy would love to hear about what your favorite gadgets are !

I have a 2nd gen Kindle and I LOVE it. But tucked away in the list of unnecessary wants in my life, I would LOVE an iPad 2 or if I daresay the soon to be released iPad 3.
