One Day Without Shoes 2012 will be on Tuesday April 10th! Join us as we go without shoes so kids don’t have to. You too can participate in One Day Without Shoes. What does that mean? Well, One Day Without Shoes is a project started to raise awareness of the impact a pair of shoes can have on a child’s life. It is a way to spark curiosity, start a conversation, and experience what millions of children experience everyday.

Shoes help protect the feet against many different things. Hundreds of millions of children are at risk for injury, infection and soil-transmitted diseases that most can’t afford to prevent and treat. I went barefoot for a good part of the day and it was not easy. I had to think twice before I got out of the car to fill the car with gas and I got some weird looks while walking my daughter into school. People really do judge you when you don’t have shoes.

This event has gone global! Over twenty five countries participated, there were over 1,000 events worldwide last year for One Day Without shoes. Not only that but over 1,400 companies joined the barefoot challenge including our own! Over five hundred schools got involved to show their support.

TOMS gives in over twenty countries throughout the world. When shoes are given, thought goes into what is appropriate for the children’s needs. Thicker soles or weather resistant materials may be needed. Colors that match school uniforms may be used.
